D. Voltage Dependent Resistor
The varistor is a kind of resistance device with nonlinear foan characteristic. It is mainly used for voltage clamp when the circuit is under overvoltage, absorbing excess current to protect the sensitive device. The name is a Voltage Dependent Resistor. The resistance material of varistors is semiconductor, so it is a variety of semiconductor resistors. When the voltage applied to a varistor is below its threshold, the current flowing through it is extremely small, which is equivalent to a resistor of infinite resistance. That is, when the voltage applied to it falls below its threshold, it acts as an off switch. When the voltage applied to a varistor exceeds its threshold, the current flowing through it surges, which is equivalent to an infinitesimal resistance. That is, when the voltage applied to it is above its threshold, it acts as a closed switch.
